From Vibe Coding to a Real Business: What Happens After You Build an App With AI
You built an app using ChatGPT, Claude, or another AI-assisted tool. Here's what actually stands between that working app and a real, paying business — and why building it was only 20% of the job.
Building the app is only 20% of the job
If you've used Claude, ChatGPT or a similar AI-assisted tool to build a working application, you've already done something genuinely hard. But the real journey begins once customers need to discover it, understand it, register, pay, get access, use it smoothly, and trust it with their data. Almost none of that is covered by 'the app works.'
Build → Sell → Control Access → Secure → Operate
That's the actual chain, and most AI-assisted builders have only ever touched the first link. The questions that show up next are consistent, regardless of what the app does: how do they register? How do they pay? Who gets access? What happens on renewal? And why should they trust it?
It doesn't matter whether you wrote every line yourself
This is worth saying plainly: it makes no difference whether you manually wrote every line of code or built entirely through AI-assisted prompting. What matters is that you're able to use these tools to solve real problems — the commercial layer on top (payment integration, login and access control, subscriptions and trials, security and monitoring) is a separate skill set from the building itself, and it's learnable the same way the building was.
